Chicago Cubs Pitcher Matt Garza Right on Schedule with Rehab November 15th, 2012 at 3:43 PM

Matt Garza is recovering well from a stress reaction which ended his 2012 season early. The pitcher, who was expected to be dealt at the trade deadline if not for the injury, had surgery four months ago to repair the damage. Garza was cleared on Thursday to resume a normal offseason routine.
Although the clearance does not mean that he will be throwing full speed fastballs tomorrow, it is a sign that his rehab is going well, and that the team is happy with the progress he has shown. Garza certainly seems pleased with the news.
"I'm cleared for takeoff!! Strap it on tight cause we are going on one helluva ride," Garza said via Twitter Thursday morning.
While Garza may still be trade bait once the deadline rolls around next season, he is expected to the Cubs opening day starter and ace while with the team. If he can pitch well and prove to the league that he has fully recovered from the setback, the pitcher's value will rise, which would give the Cubs more in return for Garza if they were to trade him.
Garza was 5-7 with a 3.91 ERA last year.
