The Chicago Cubs’ rookies had a great showing in the team’s 7-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals last night. Jorge Soler hit two home runs, Arismendy Alcantara added another and Javier Baez had an RBI double; combined, the trio went 5-11 with three home runs, six RBI’s, and 15 total bases. The power shown by the Cubs’ youngsters should come as a surprise to no one, as the trio combined for 48 home runs in the minor leagues this season alone, but it is so exciting to see their potential manifest itself at the big league level.

However, Soler, Alcantara and Baez may have more pop than we had originally thought:

If Soler, Alcantara and Baez were to keep up the pace that they currently on, in a full season of at least 500 at bats, they would hit 37, 16, 44 home runs respectively. Try to wrap your head around a lineup that features four guys with 30+ home run power in Anthony Rizzo, Soler, Baez and Kris Bryant, plus an additional 30 home runs between Alcantara and Starlin Castro. The Cubs’ may be a few years away from being able to build a dominant pitching staff but until then they should have the firepower to slug their way to a victory on any given day. Come 2015, the best seat in the house might just be somewhere out on Waveland Avenue!
